Pounamu conversation visualisation

Check out this amazing data visualisation of a national online conversation sparked by our CleverAndCreative team (Leni, Caitlin and Anaiya). Their suggestion was "We could try to get everyone using solar energy instead of nuclear energy." This 'card' (idea) was then played, replayed and commented on for the remainder of the game. The team won a Pounamu award for the micro-forecast that generated the biggest national conversational current. Ka pai team, fantastic work.

We have been learning to work out fractions like: 2/3 of 12.....we knew how to find 1/3 of 12 which was 4 so if we double that we would get 8!

Pounamu National Science Conversation

Our 'CleverAndCreative' group celebrate moving into first place on the leader board on Pounamu, a national conversation happening online about science and the future of New Zealand.

Creative Writing

Some of us have started the 100 Word Challenge and we are loving it! You have a prompt (words or a picture) and you can write anything about it in 100 words.
We use our Harakeke kid blogs to post our stories, then we read each other's and leave comments.
This week we wrote stories about giant footsteps - lots of monsters and some great language.
We can't wait to see what our prompt is for next week.

Really Getting Into Maths Tasks...

In some maths groups we love to start off our workshops with some tricky mind-bending tasks. Can you see the engagement? Can you hear some of the focused and rich mathematical discussion going on?

Rugby update

The lads have played really well. We won our second game 4 - 0, and our third game 2 - 1. Next stop the semi finals, whoop whoop. Fantastic team spirit from everyone, even in the driving rain. Good job Amesbury!

Barefoot Tackle Rugby

On a very wet and windy morning here in Island Bay the rugby lads are doing really well. First game against Ngaio we lost 2-1 but played well.  Try scored by Michael, nice job! Next up, Kelburn Normal. Will keep you posted.

Swimming Fun!

Great first session at Khandallah School pool. We love the warm water, the nice instructors and the fort on the playground. Teachers love the soundproof doors on the changing rooms!
