Daniel and Long Buddies...

Dear Amaria

Just dropping you a note to pass on our thanks to the children from Amesbury School who created Long and Daniel, the two buddies that spent the day at Barnardos New Zealand.  Long was my Buddy and Daniel was the Buddy of Jeff Sanders, our Chief Executive.

We really enjoyed reading the stories on the back of our buddies which told us all about their lives, what makes them happy and the things that are important to them.

Daniel and Long went to a meeting where they met up with two other buddies, joined the staff quiz, helped out at reception, answered calls on our IT helpdesk, learned all about the donations we get from all over New Zealand, and finally they sat in on a meeting about our new computer system before it was time to go home.

I've attached some pictures of the things they did, and hope you can share them with the children who created them.

Kind regards
Mike

By the Vege Patch

I snapped this pic of some of the lads this afternoon. It was a beautiful day and they had decided to drag the beanbags out to the vege patch, Chromebooks in hand, to take advantage of the weather. These guys were working on their cultural narratives where they are writing about a Kiwi kid going on a trip to another country.

A Sizzling Saturday

Many thanks to Anaiya, Payal, Tom, Michael, Anthony, Tina, Karina and Madi for helping out at our sausage sizzle today in Porirua.
A great time was had by all, lots of banter and sauce! Final profit today was $440.50, all proceeds going towards our South Island camp in a few weeks.
Huge thanks to Novotel for donating our sausages and Brumbies for donating the bread. Thanks also to Bunnings for use of the barbecue.
Our second sasuage sizzle will be happening at Bunnings Warehouse in Porirua next Sunday. Come along and enjoy a sausage with us!

Our friends, the buddies!

We have been busy creating identities for our buddies. They now represent a range of cultures and nationalities. Here they are, all dressed up, waiting to be collected for Buddy Day on 15 November. Great work Harakeke!

We finished on a win!

We had a fantastic day in the sun and it was finished off with a win.  Well done girls.

Getting ready for our last game.

The exhausted Amesbury Aces.

Try scorers (Melanie is missing from this picture).

A fun race at the end to celebrate Melbourne Cup Day.

Buddy Day Clothing Appeal

Hello parents and caregivers.

As a part of Buddy Day NZ which is about raising awareness for looking after children we need to decorate / clothe our blank Buddies.

Here are some of the materials we could really use: (but don't bring in your best stuff, this won't be coming back!)
  • Cloth / fabric
  • Felt
  • Wool
  • Old towels and blankets etc
  • Old clothing you don't use any more (to fit a small child)
  • Ping pong balls
  • Pipe-cleaners
  • Old hats
  • Wigs
  • Buttons
  • String
  • Old bags
  • Ice cream containers
  • Or anything else crafty / sneaky you think we can use

We're doing it this week, especially Thursday so please bring in your stuff shortly.

Thanks,

HH.

Girls Rippa Rugby

We have just played our second game and the girls are getting the hang of it.
We lost our first game to Holy Family and our second game to Our Lady.
