Year 4/5 and the U20 FIFA World Cup

At our football tournament today, we saw the Under 20 FIFA World Cup! We were also lucky enough to have our photo taken with it (look closely at the back!)  The U20 FIFA World Cup is being hosted by New Zealand next year, with 9 games being held in Wellington.
We demonstrated some super soccer skills at Memorial Park, Petone today, so who knows, maybe one day we'll compete in the World Cup too!

Year 4/5 Football

It's a gorgeous day and the Year 4s and 5s are ready to go with their football skills sessions. We are looking forward to playing in the tournament later on!

FUNdraising Friday Coming Up!

Hi there! We are six students from Harakeke Hub who have been working on helping out to increase joy in our local community or in the wider world. FUNdraising Friday is happening this Friday to help us raise some money in a FUN way!

In the fundraising week (week 10) Aimee and Phoebe are raising money for Women’s Refuge. Women’s Refuge is a Wellington-based refuge that helps women who have run away from an abusive husband/boyfriend. Women’s Refuge work very closely with the police so if someone is being abusive to their partner/anyone they could go to jail. We are doing this because we think it is wrong to be abusive to your partners, especially when there is death involved.

Nirvanah and Emily are raising money for a charity in Africa called Aurelia’s Orphanage. This orphanage has a blog which has a page of goals that they want achieved. They are wanting money to make their orphanage a better place for the kids there. They want to help the orphanage and let the children live a better life.

Jane and Kimberley are raising money for Maui dolphins/WWF. We’re doing this disquiry so they can make people/Maui dolphins more joyful. We are also doing this disquiry because then the WWF people will smile to see that others care about maui dolphins as well.

These three groups are going to do a combined fundraiser on Friday week 10. We are going to do a Pyjama / Odd Shoe / Bake Sale day. Bring a gold coin donation (or more!) and come along dressed up or willing to eat treats to help out. It may even make you and others smile, which will increase our joy!

Also, don't forget our learning celebration at 1:45pm in Amesbury Hall. See you there!

Day Three at Ski Camp

We have had another awesome day in the snow.

All children have improved their skiing skills and some of the more confident children went to the top of the slope with some spectacular 'wipe-outs'on their way down!  If you want to know more see Tais and Emma L.

There were other members of the public on the slope and one unfortunate young man had an accident and had to be airlifted to hospital.  The staff at Tukino were fast to react.  This was a timely reminder to slow down and take care.

Liza, Sarah and Dave were amazing ski instructors and showed our children how to control their descent and consolidate their parallel turns.  Being graceful is key, not speed!

We are looking forward to coming home and seeing our families.

Day Two at Ski Camp

What a cracker of a day!

The children slept peacefully and woke with an appetite.  We started our day with a range of breakfast options such as porridge, weetbix, spaghetti, baked beans and scrambled eggs.

Many of our children had their first lesson yesterday, so were eager to hit the slopes this morning.  There were lots of squeals, laughter and fun throughout the day.

We ended our day with a movie called Snow Dogs.  As soon as their heads hit their pillow, they were out to it!

Good night all.

Day One at Ski Camp

Hi all!

We are all happy campers here in our cosy (and hot) lodge.  The fireplace is amazing!

We had a clear road of snow and arrived fed and happy.  We've had a great afternoon of skiing. Every child has had success on the slopes.  Hannah D is a machine.

Roast chicken, potatoes, broccoli and coleslaw for dinner thanks to Liza and Sarah.  The kids have been great at the dishes so far.  Hot apple pie and custard is cooking away and we are all playing card games, board games and making huts with the cushions.

Due to patchy internet the photos are taking ages to upload.  We'll keep on it and get some up soon.

Good night all!

Amesbury All Stars Netball Final

The girls have made it into the FINAL! Woooooo!
