Participation in the moveMprove programme has a flow on effect to the classroom. Here's some of our Koru Hub children in action...Movement development helps children in areas of health, sport and recreation, as well as education!
The moveMprove programme provides development of spatial awareness and all seven fundamental and recurring patterns of movement; Landing, Spring, Statics, Swing, Locomotion, Rotation and Manipulative Skills.
Children develop motor skills in a sequential manner from the centre (trunk) to the more distant parts (arms, hands and feet) of their bodies. Mastery of these key movement patterns is necessary if optimum development is to occur in the higher level, fine motor skills, such as handwriting and eye tracking for reading.
Children who have developed fundamental movement patterns:
- Are confident in their ability to participate in physical activity.
- Are confident learners in a classroom environment.
- Are likely to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
